Bailey in pencil lower right, numbered 206 lower left. There is a pencil inscription on the reverse noting that the engraving was purchased in 1963.
Roy Bailey was born in Bangor, Maine in 1933. He studied at the New York School of Visual Arts and at the Pratt Graphic Art Center. He moved to Nantucket in 1959, joined the Artists Association of Nantucket in 1961, and rented a studio on Old South Wharf. Later studios were at the corner of Orange and Main Streets (until the early ‘70s), and then Vestal Street. He was known for both oils and watercolors.
This wood cut was from the personal collection of the late Nantucket antiques dealer Howard B. Chadwick, Jr. Howard purchased it directly from his friend, the artist, in 1963.
