19th Century American Bison Horn Wall Mount

$985.00

Late 19th Century American Bison Horn Wall Mount, likely last quarter of the 19th Century, having two pairs and a fifth single horn mounted to hang on wall, with soft tanned buffalo hide wrap. Although made from American Buffalo (species Bison bison), this would not have been a Native American piece, but rather Western Folk Art or an Adirondack Camp piece, most likely a hat rack.

Late 19th Century American Bison Horn Wall Mount, likely last quarter of the 19th Century, having two pairs and a fifth single horn mounted to hang on wall, with soft tanned buffalo hide wrap. Although made from American Buffalo (species Bison bison), this would not have been a traditional Native American piece, but likely made for sale to whites as Western Folk Art or an Adirondack Camp piece. An accent piece, it was probably also used as a hat rack.

The piece remains in fine, strong condition. The soft tanned hide retains some tufts of buffalo fur. It could easily be re-covered with fur (scraps of buffalo hide are readily available from Native American and Western Crafts supply trading posts).
