Large 19th Century Sailor’s Woolie of Double Decker Ship of the Line, circa 1870, a sailor’s hand embroidered woolen yarn panel depicting a British naval ship with all sails set, flying the Scottish Red Ensign and Pennant, under a bright and precociously modern feeling sky. This is a bright, pastel hued woolwork and in an exceptional huge size.

The woolwork remains in bright and strong condition with no discernible fading; there are some dark spots and old moth damage, mostly at the edges, that do not adversely affect the appearance. There are some loose lines of rigging, but the black threads are pretty much in place and held by the wool. Mounted in a new bird’s-eye maple frame.

Measures: 21-1/2 in High x 31-1/2 in Wide
Framed: 30-1/4 in H x 40-1/4 in Wide
