19th Century Sailor’s Folk Art Woolie with Photograph of a Young Queen Victoria, circa 1896, hand crafted wool yarn picture with silver thread highlights, having a period cut-down cabinet card photograph of a young Queen Victoria within a central medallion, inscribed “Heaven’s Light Our Guide” – the motto of The Order of The Star of India (of which Victoria was Empress), and the date “1896” – the year that Victoria became the longest reigning monarch in British history (at that time), all flanked by the flags of Allies. This is the first I have seen a woolwork of this nature.
The woolie remains in great condition, with good, strong colors, and is mounted in it’s original frame.
