19th Century Copper Eagle Weather Vane, likely by A.L. Jewell & Co., Waltham, MA, circa 1860, a diminutive cast and welded copper hollow eagle weather vane in a unique posture with wings raised upright high over back, head arched low and forward, standing atop an orb. Closely comparable to ones by Jewell but an example of this exact size and posture could not be found. The eagle has a great fierce and dynamic attitude. Mounted on a black iron museum stand.
This very early weather vane is in old weather worn and darkened gold paint. It remains structurally strong, but clearly shows its age: the left wing has bent a little higher than the right, some welded seams have parted slightly along wing and beak edges, and of course there are the few obligatory gun shot holes.
