A vintage sculpture of a dog, first half of the 20th century, hand-carved from a block of green marble, unsigned. The sculpture portrays a mastiff, sitting upright in an attentive pose with ears cocked, head canted and mouth open. The sculpture is an exact copy in miniature of one of a pair of such dogs sculpted in white marble at the entrance to the Uffizi Museum in Florence, Italy. The piece is in excellent condition: the bits missing off the ears are an exact, faithful copy of the original.
