Exceptional Mid 19th Century Sailor’s Woolie of Naval Ship Approaching a Lighthouse, circa 1850, a very finely crafted sailor’s woolwork with great variety of very short stitches including cable, cross and curved stitches, depicting a double-decker ship-of-the-line under full sail, flying the Ensign of the Red Fleet at the stern, Union Jack and Admiral’s Pennant at the main peak, approaching a headland with lighthouse and signal tower flying Azorean Flag, under creamy overcast sky, on creamy sea with a hint of mauve.

Exceptional Mid 19th Century Sailor’s Woolie of Naval Ship Approaching a Lighthouse, circa 1850, a very finely crafted sailor’s woolwork with great variety of very short stitches including cable, cross and curved stitches, depicting a double-decker ship-of-the-line under full sail, flying the Ensign of the Red Fleet at the stern, Union Jack and Admiral’s Pennant at the main peak, approaching a headland with lighthouse and signal tower flying Azorean Flag, under creamy overcast sky, on creamy sea with a hint of mauve. Mounted in original carved frame.

The woolie remains in excellent structural condition, and no doubt some fading over the years (noticeable in the Azorean flag).
