19th Century Rosewood Campaign Lap Desk, British, circa 1874, a magnificent brass bound rosewood folding desk box, with brass bound corners and edges, inset side handles, escutcheon, and brass plaque mounted on top inscribed “Ada B. Johnson, Christmas, 1874.” The fitted interior includes pen tray, compartments for ink bottles, and a hinged tooled red leather writing surface which reveals two stationary compartments.

The very deep and dramatic grain to the Rosewood almost approaches Coramandel. The box is in excellent condition, and the leather writing surface was recently replaced so is in mint condition as well. Lap desks just do not get any better.
