Antique Mason Standard Grade Painted Eye Mallard Hen Decoy, circa 1910 , having head with carved and painted eyes, attached to solid carved body with slightly protruding breast. In mostly original paint with I think some old touch-up to the black paint on the body.
These Standard Grade decoys were made with the heads left raised on a dowel and the gap filled with wood putty: a fragile arrangement that in most cases did not last. The putty here has been replaced at some point.
This is a long sleek decoy with a very wary attitude.
