Cord, 1939, a lovely oil on canvas impressionist view of the fishing boat “Girl Nancy” and another rafted together at wharf in the fishing port of Deauville in Normandy, identified, signed and dated “Deauville, Girl Nancy, J. Cord, 1939” in the lower left. An accomplished painting done in matte hues, with brilliant reflection of light in the water in the foreground. Chilling to think that this serene fishing village would be invaded by World War II in the next year.
