Early 19th Century Grain Painted Firkin, possibly late 18th Century, a hand crafted firkin or bucket, having a round lid above a barrel-stave built vessel held by wooden hoops, on solid wooden base, with rope handle attached through holes drilled in two staves; all hand painted in a vivid faux mahogany grain.

The firkin remains in very good, strong condition. The soft pine wood has at some time in the past been attacked by insects but there is no longer anyone home – there are no longer any beetles. The top hope is a little loose, as is typical with age, and can occasionally slip down a bit. The paint remains strong and wild.
