19th Century Sailor’s Folk Art Woolie with an Auxiliary Ship and Schooner, circa 1880, a sailor’s folk art hand stitched wool yarn picture of a British Ship-Rigged Steam Sailor with inverted bow and two smoke stacks likely for a double screw (so a very fast vessel), flying the ensign of the White Fleet off the spanker gaff, and an admiral’s red pennant at the main peak; in consort with a much smaller Schooner-Rigged Steam Sailor with all sails furled, double stacks and a red pennant; cruising along a hilly promontory with lighthouse at its end, portrayed with lantern lit.

A good sized, very attractive and colorful woolie with nice striated sea. Mounted in its original maple frame.

The woolie is in good condition and has not faded. There are some yarn ends raised above the weave, especially around the edges, though they do not detract from the beautiful woolwork.
