19th Century American Seascape, by L.M. Cook, circa 1870s or 80s, an American School oil on canvas seascape depicting a starboard side view of a bark on a broad reach, with other small sailing craft in the sound, signed lower right L.M.C., and bearing a very old, faint hand-inscribed paper label on the reverse stating the painting is by L. Cook and was found in an old sea captain’s home in Provincetown, Mass.

The painting has craquelure throughout that has been professionally stabilized. There are a few small (dime sized) spots of professional conservation and in-painting in the lower right sea.
