Vintage Nantucket Purse, by Martin Brown, Nantucket Island, 2001, an oval covered Nantucket basket with cane weave on wood or possibly very thick rattan staves, distinctive carved swing handle with the Brown family signature finger grips, with scrimshaw carved scallop shells on an oak top, turned peg and knobs, the inside lid bears an ovate scrimshaw plaque engraved with the owner’s name, signed on the bottom “Martin Brown X1001.”

The basket remains in excellent, barely used condition, but has had time to develop a lovely patina.
