The “Nantucket Sleighride” was the whaler’s aphorism for the wild and perilous high speed ride when a whaleboat was towed along by a fleeing harpooned whale. While some footage exists of such sleighrides staged for the silent film Down to the Sea in Ships and the later film Moby Dick, this shot is not from either and is the only period real life photograph I have seen.

The photograph remains in great condition and is mounted in a silvered metal frame.

Measures: 26.25″ H x 53.5″ W.
