19th Century Pair of Cast Iron Native American Andirons, circa 1880, very scarce andirons depicting Massasoit, the Sachem of the Wampanoag Confederacy, who met and befriended the Pilgrims of the Plymouth Plantation. The figure is shown wearing a kilt over leggings and moccasins, with crossed bandoliers and feather plumes in hair – an accurate record of typical Northeastern Woodlands attire.
These andirons were made briefly by the Plymouth Foundry, inspired by the nation’s centennial celebration. These are rather scarce and have brought up to $5400 or so at auction in the past.

The andirons remain in excellent condition, with beautiful surface patina.
