Antique Sailor’s Elaborate Woolwork, circa 1855, with a photograph of the sailor held in a woolwork frame set on the British flag on a cruciform reserve; with the “Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense” motto of the royal family and The Order of The Garter, flanked by the flags of the Allies in the Crimean War, the symbols of the UK nations (lion, unicorn and thistle), and the royal banner “Dieu et Mon Droit.” Four ships are portrayed sailing into and out of the frame at each corner.

A wonderful and elaborate folk art piece with a wild and fanciful layout.
The woolie remains in excellent condition, with minimal fading and no discernible damage, mounted in its original frame.
