18th century French or Italian Santo Nativity Figure

18th Century French or Italian Santo Nativity Figure, a hand carved and painted fruitwood figure for a Christmas Creche or Krippe. Excellent and delicate details to the head and hands. The half figure stands on a dowel set into platform base, dressed in original fine linen robe. The Nativity set is as central to the French and Italian Christmas tradition as the fir tree is to Germans. This is quite simply an amazing rare Christmas relic. One of two being offered. As should be expected with the age, there is some ancient bug damage to the wood, and the linen is fragile and with tears.

Measures: 11-3/4 in high x 3-1/2 in wide x 3-1/4 in deep overall.
