Pair of Late Colonial or Early Federal Iron Acorn Finial Andirons, circa 1800, an unusual and impressively large pair of cast iron andirons with a large fluted acorn finial atop a heavy knife blade standard, raised on arched legs ending in penny feet; the log holders are riveted straight through the standards with a prominent boss.

These andirons are very difficult to date: the standards, feet and construction are consistent with 18th Century norms, although the arched legs are very simple rather than indulging in the rococo excesses of that period. The acorn finial could date anywhere from the Queen Ann to Victorian periods.

The andirons remain in excellent strong condition with a lovely deep surface patina.
