Mid-Century Lobster Pools Trade Sign, circa 1960s, a wooden sign hand painted on both sides advertising “Lobster Pools.” For those outside of New England, lobster pools are “pounds” where live lobsters are kept for purchase, usually for cooking on the spot for eating “Lobster in the Rough.” They are not seen as often as they used to be on the Cape and along the coast of Maine, although some very old ones still survive like the famous one in Ogunquit. This sign is unintentionally whimsical in that the plurals “pools” makes it sound like a store selling swimming pools or relaxing spas for your pet lobsters. The sign is in very good condition with just a little roughing around the edges as expected. Measures: 22 in high x 43-1/2 in wide x 3/4 in thick.
