Vintage Jose Reyes Nantucket Purse, circa Early 1950s, an oval covered basket with cane weave on cane staves, swing handle held by early copper rivets, having an unusual carved whale tooth Sperm Whale by Aletha Macy in a dynamic curved swimming posture, mounted on birch top plate, the lid fastened by wooden peg, the mahogany bottom signed “Made In Nantucket, Jose Formoso Reyes” with an etched outline of Nantucket Island.
The basket is in mint original condition, with a perfect warm honey colored patina.
