Early Vintage Maine Folk Art Model of a Friendship Sloop, circa 1940s, a hand made scratch-built plank on frame model of the iconic cutter rigged sloop hailing from Friendship, Maine. Model is an accurate scale replica of the famous small craft, in full running rigging with sails raised, mounted on original cradle.

The Friendship was a working boat for lobstermen under sail, a direct descendant of the Muscongous Bay Lobster Smack designed in the mid 19th Century. They are beamy and seaworthy, built to stand up to steep seas and a strong breeze, fast yet easy to man single handed and left to luff into the wind on its own while the fisherman hauled back his pots. They are also hands down the most beautiful small craft ever launched under sail.

The model is in excellent condition, and nicely shows its age through the drying of wood and mellowing of the canvas over the years.
