The bottom margin of the panel is weathered wood that had never received a stain or varnish &#8211; the chest had an applied molding along the bottom for strength and reinforcement.<\/p>\n<p>This fragment remains in great condition. One wonders what the whole chest was like &#8211; perhaps killer carved beckets to match the front carving?
