A World War I flag honoring three family members in service.

The flag is structurally sound and in fairly good condition, but does show its wonderful age in the overall fading, slight staining, few holes, and loss mostly along the bottom margin. Mounted in a new bird’s eye maple frame.

This flag was designed and patented by retired Army Captain Robert Queisser of the Ohio National guard, who wished to honor his sons who were serving in the trenches in the world war. Although not an official flag sanctioned by congress or the military, the flag became immediately popular and was flown by many families across the country. It preceded the better known Gold Star Flag honoring family members lost in service. This Size flag was intended to be displayed in one’s home window rather than flying on a pole.

Measures: 22-1/2 in H x 35-1/2 in W
Framed: 28-1/2 in H x 42 in W.

Antique Historic World War I Era Rare Three Star Service Flag, circa 1917, a linen flag having three blue stars hand-stitched onto a white canton on a red field.
