Antique Sailor’s Folk Art Whale Bone Reticulated Basket, early to mid 19th Century, an early whaleman’s hand made basket with thin, carved whale bone slats crossed and fastened in an open weave to whale bone collars via brass rivets and mounted on a rosewood bottom plate.<\/p>\n
The basket is in remarkable condition for such a delicate piece of this age. There is a small loss to one, possibly two, tips and the bottom of one stave. There appears to have been repairs to two staves and to few spots along the top collar.<\/p>\n
