Seascape with Yachts Racing off Coast, by Vern Broe (1930 – 2011), circa 1990s, an oil on panel modern realist painting with a sloop-rigged yacht sailing along a Nantucket or Cape Cod shoreline, with another sloop and other sails in the background; the signature is likely hidden beneath the frame but the painting is without question by Broe and is 100% guaranteed. This is a large painting by this New England artist, rendered in his characteristic crisp style with brilliant interplay of luminous sunlight and shadows.

Vern Broe was born in Illinois in 1930 and studied at the American Academy of Art, the University of Illinois, the Chicago Institute of Design and the San Francisco Art Institute. He moved to New England and established himself as a very popular and eagerly sought marine painter in Maine. He worked for a long time on Cape Cod and was particularly fond of the Nantucket coastline. His seascapes overwhelmingly favored catboats, and occasionally other small craft and only rarely ships. He later painted often in an impressionist style featuring mothers and children on bluffs overlooking the ocean. He retired to Maine and continued painting until his death in 2011.

The painting remains in excellent condition.
