19th Century German Sailor’s Folk Art Shadowbox of the “Swallow,” circa 1870s, having a hand-carved clipper ship model with full running rigging set of sheet metal sails, carved and gilded figurehead, gilded quarterboard and sternboard inscribed “Schweibe” (the fleetwinged Swallow), flying the Imperial German Naval Ensign at the mizzen peak, and signal flags on the backstay, set on a nice molded and painted ocean, under a fair blue sky; mounted in a shadowbox with faux rosewood grain painted frame.

The model remains in very good condition with just two parted lines of rigging. The shadowbox and frame remain sturdy, with the few expected nicks on the frame.
