Late 19th Century Chinese Altar Cabinet in the Ming Style - SOLD
Antique Chinese altar cabinet in the Ming style, purchased in China in the 1920s and brought back to family home on Nantucket Island. Handcrafted with the traditional wooden pegs and tenon structure and brass hardware. It has intricate "relief" carvings of floral design on the spandrels and the apron of the cabinet, and bas relief carved figures and dragons on the front panels. The flared wings are removable. The cabinet is probably made from a combination of cypress and elm woods, and is in excellent condition with original patina and minimal wear. The piece has an important provenance which will be shared with the buyer.
