Stone Lithograph of Geraniums by Nantucket Artist Andrew Shunney, circa 1960s

Price: $1,400.00

Vintage Postmodern still life of geraniums by Nantucket Artist Andrew Shunney (1916-1978), circa 1960, a hand colored lithograph printed from a hand engraved plate of lithographic limestone, depicting a midcentury, post modern Expressionist view of geraniums in a pot, signed in the lower left, matted and mounted in the original frame with with gallery description on the reverse from The Collector's Guild om Madison Avenue, New York. Andrew Shunney was born in Attleboro, Mass., and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. He later studied under Diego Rivera and then moved to Paris for inspiration in the work of French Impressionists. Summering on Nantucket from the early 1950s until his death, Shunney had a studio on Straight Wharf and also exhibited at the Lobster Pot Gallery; he was also well known in the Palm Beach art scene where he wintered. He was a mainstay of the Nantucket Art Colony in the 1960s and 70s, and is generally regarded as the iconic artist of that fertile period on-island. Geraniums were the most sought after of his original bold oil on canvas paintings. The lithograph and frame are in excellent condition. Image: 14-1/2 in H x 10-3/8 in W Frame: 19-1/2 in H x 15-1/2 in W.
