Painting of the Whaleship "Charles W. Morgan" by James Cree

Price: $2,400.00

Original Painting of the famous Whaleship "Charles W. Morgan", by noted New Bedford artist James Cree (1867 - 1951), circa 1921, a watercolor on paper seascape with the whaleship running before the wind under full sail, whale boats hung on davits, crew visible on deck, and another schooner on horizon, signed Jas Cree 1921 in the lower right. Cree was active in New Bedford from 1910 to 1932, an important eye witness to the last days of whaling under sail. The Charles W. Morgan enjoyed an extremely long and successful career sailing out of New Bedford, and was dry docked for many years outside the city. The Morgan is now fully restored and afloat at Mystic Seaport, the most famous and only surviving whaleship in the world. Image: 17 1/4 in H x 21 3/4 in W Frame: 25 1/2 in H x 29 1/4 in W.
